RFID reader design supporting multiple RFID tag standards

Radio frequency identification (RFID) is widely used in logistics management, transportation management, factory production control and other fields due to its long identification distance. This article will introduce a software radio-based RFID reader design, which solves the problem of needing to purchase different readers to read and write different types of RFID tags.


In view of the fact that the current RFID system has various operating frequencies, many standards and large gaps, and is not suitable for the simultaneous application of multiple tags, the idea of designing an RFID reader based on software radio. By loading different software codes, the simulation reader can read and write RFID tags in different frequency bands and conforming to different standards. By comparing with the reading result of the standard reader, the simulated reader realizes the reading of the information carried by the RFID tag, which saves the cost of configuring various types of readers.

Using the characteristics of software radio, different RFID standards are implemented with software codes. By loading different software codes, the read and write operations of RFID tags conforming to different standards are realized. It can easily solve the problem of needing to purchase different readers to read and write different types of RFID tags.


Software-defined radio is a brand-new design idea that gradually emerged after the 1990s, and its core is the general modularization. By loading different communication software on the programmable hardware platform, the conversion between different communication modes can be realized. This design idea makes the radio station in communication adapt to different communication methods. The good compatibility and programmability of software radio make the development of communication system mainly become the research of digital signal processing software. Based on this idea, we can try to implement various RFID standards in the form of software codes, so as to realize the functions of RFID readers that conform to various standards by loading different software.
