The Identification Role of Active RFID Tags in the Internet of Things

June 12,2023.

Active RFID tags  (Radio Frequency Identification) are a widely used technology in the Internet of Things (IoT) and play an important role in identification. RFID technology transmits data through radio signals to realize automatic identification and tracking of objects. Different from passive RFID tags, active RFID tags have a built-in battery, have a longer communication distance and stronger signal transmission capabilities, so they play an important role in IoT applications.

First, active RFID tags enable efficient identification and location in the Internet of Things. Since the active RFID tag has a built-in battery, it has a longer communication distance and can communicate with the reader in a wider range. This allows IoT systems to accurately identify and locate the object the tag is attached to without human intervention. For example, in logistics management, active RFID tags can track the location and status of goods, realize automated warehouse management and inventory control, and improve efficiency and accuracy.

Second, active RFID tags provide real-time data transmission and monitoring functions in the Internet of Things. The built-in battery of the active RFID tag can provide continuous power supply, so that the tag can transmit data to the reader or the Internet of Things platform in real time. This real-time data transmission enables the IoT system to monitor and collect information on objects in a timely manner, including environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity, and pressure, as well as information such as the movement and status of objects. Based on these data, real-time decisions and adjustments can be made to improve production efficiency, optimize resource utilization and improve user experience.

Additionally, active RFID tags enhance security and anti-counterfeiting features in IoT. Since active RFID tags have strong signal transmission capabilities, security mechanisms such as encryption and identity verification can be used to protect data transmission and storage. This enables IoT systems to better prevent data leakage and tampering, ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of information. At the same time, active RFID tags can also be used for anti-counterfeiting and traceability of products. Through the unique identification code and related information on the tags, the authenticity of products can be tracked and verified, and the circulation of counterfeit and shoddy goods can be prevented.

Active RFID tags play an important identification role in the Internet of Things. Its long communication distance and powerful signal transmission capability realize efficient identification and positioning; real-time data transmission and monitoring functions provide the basis for real-time decision-making and adjustment; security and anti-counterfeiting functions enhance the security of the Internet of Things system Security and trust. With the continuous development of the Internet of Things, the application prospects of active RFID will be broader, bringing more convenience and innovation to all walks of life.
